Today we’d like to introduce you to Keshia Colleton.

Hi Keshia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
MMM FiT Club was created in February 2018, I had the vision of what I wanted it to be since June 2017. At the time, I was in search of a safe space for myself and a place I could bring my children to workout and network with like-minded women (motherhood, professional development, healthy tips, etc.). Since I was unsuccessful in finding a community where I could express myself with limitations, I decided to create a safe space and welcome other women.

Since its inception and being certified, I have met and worked with over 700 women (mostly), men and children in the community, across the United States, and more recently in Spain. It’s empowering to offer diverse workout classes to fit the vibe of the attendees. Any class attended is welcoming to an experience into various genres of African, Afro-Caribbean, RnB and Hip-Hop music. Through exposure to these eclectic sounds, it awakens a magnetic energy for attendees to be their authentic selves.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’d say it hasn’t been a smooth road, I’ve experienced some struggles. One of the struggles in the fitness community at large is client/customer retention. Being able to not only create a safe space for class attendees and personal training clients but to also motivate them to be consistent along their health and wellness journey. I’m not naive to think I have all the answers as the key in fitness is personal accountability with discipline.

Living and loving ourselves is a daily goal we all share but only we, ourselves can be consistent in achieving this goal of a healthy lifestyle. This takes more than just working out twice a week, it takes mental wellness (self-awareness, meditation), healthy diet (plant-based, less processed foods), and having a healthy work-life balance.

We’ve been impressed with Melanin•Muscles•Mascara FiT Club (MMM FiT Club), but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

MMM FiT Club was launched in May of 2018 with the intent to create an experience vs exercise for everyone to get FiT, have FUN, and Fellowship across boundaries to uplift the community-at-large through virtual and mobile services. MMM FiT Club currently has over 700 (Queens) women who have experienced AfroSoca Fusion, Trap Yoga, #GetMeBodied Bootcamp, and the newest additions: Can’t Resist! and BubblesNBounce HIIT (Intermediate Level) class. Each class is unique to the magnetic vibes of Afrobeats, Soca, Reggae, Dancehall, RnB, HipHop, NOLA Bounce, B’More//Jersey Club, and Miami Bass. Weekly private training and group classes are currently offered at Wescott Park, Riverfront Park, and at private locations in Summerville and surrounding areas (Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester Counties). Anyone can book MMM FiT Club for any private event, small group, or organizational event by emailing: mmmfitclub@gmail.com.

We have been featured on Bounce Around Charleston – Live 5 News and Winner of the ACHI Magazine Awards for Health & Wellness. Proud Partnership with Ambrosia Eats by Ambrosia Kitchen & Catering offering my clients clean eating options for meal prep.

How do you think about luck?
Honestly, I’d say luck hasn’t played any part of my life or in my pursuits as a business owner. More specifically, in business, there’s been many times I’ve been reserved and didn’t want to put myself out in social media or in the public. But I knew in those moments and presently, that it takes risks, becoming uncomfortable to stretch beyond my comfort zone and to build my network authentically through creating relationships with people.

I’ve been blessed through the trials, errors, and teachable moments. One reminder I give myself every day is that my goal is to create a safe space for girls and women to feel comfortable being themselves and embracing a healthy lifestyle through consistency, accountability, and understanding.
